Dear inhabitants of the Tonshaevskij region!
On the 11th of may 2008, as in the old good times, when all Mari people considered each other as brothers, in the Holy “Awesome ” Grove near a village Ashkaty with the blessings of the Main Kart [kart] (a hierophant) of Mari El republic Alexander Ivanovich Tanygin will be performed the spring praying of the followerships of The Mari Traditional Religion.
We invite to come and to pray to Osh Kugu Yumo all Mari people, who desire to have peace, health and welfare in their families.
The praying will be led by the Onaeng of Kuzhenerskij region of the Mari El republic Albert Ivanovich Rukavishnikov.

It was explained by Albert Rukavishnikov that when for a long time (more than 10-30 years) in The Sacred Grove were not passed any prayings, this ceremony (on the 11th of May in Tonshaevskiy district of Nizhniy-Novgorod region) - is not the praying in the classical understanding of The Religion of Ancestors, but a Sjorymash, the notice of Osh Kugu Yumo near the Onapu (a world tree) about the fact that in this Sacred Grove the Admirers of The Religion of Ancestors begin to conduct the prayings. After Sjorymash the prayings are passed approximately after a half of a year. Sjorymash includes mostly the same rites as during the prayings (pancakes, kvass, bonfires, etc), with the exception of the sacrificial offerings.
Do Mari people have to follow the abstinences (pjuto) before the prayings? Albert Rukavishnikov: "The Karts [karts] (Hierophants) hallow their abstinences (pjuto) 7 days before prayings. To usual people it is necessary to hallow (pjuto) a day before the prayings:
- if it is possible for the health to limit yourself with the food;
- not to drink alcoholic drinks;
- not to use a foul language;
- in the evening on the eve of the prayings it is necessary to go to the bath-house;
- and in the morning in the clean clothes, with the clean soul, with the clean thoughts and intentions to go to the prayings."
Who must not take part in the prayings? Albert Rukavishnikov: "It is not recommended to take part in the prayings for those people in whose houses have not pass a year after the burial of someone, who lived in that house (wishful even not to go in to The Sacred Groves). As the houses, are mentioned the metochions. This does not concern relatives, members of a family, if they live separately (in the another house)."
How many years The Sacred Grove "keeps the information" about the last praying? Albert Rukavishnikov: "96 years".
